In international sports, on September 10, 2023, USA Basketball did not medal in FIBA Basketball. USA Basketball lost to Lithuania, Germany, and Canada. The USA is now getting a lot of backlash from the world and its citizens for not putting together the best team possible.
Other than the USA Basketball team getting backlash, the NBA has been getting some backlash from the world, saying that the NBA should not be calling themselves World Champs after winning The NBA Finals. Additionally, people have been saying it is less competitive because non-NBA players score more than a team of NBA players.
In my poll about the World Cup that I had created, I asked who the best player in the World Cup was, and they answered with 62.5% saying it was Luka Doncic. 12.5% said it was Anthony Edwards who had the highest percentage for USA Basketball.
So, is it a surprise that USA basketball is falling behind opponents now and that the USA is not as dominant? In the poll, 100% said the USA is still dominant. What can this mean, or what is the answer for USA Basketball?
My source, who did not want to be named in this article, told me, “The problem with USA Basketball is that they aren’t picking the best possible players and that the best American NBA players aren't wanting and choosing to play.” For example, in the last Olympics, notable NBA players, such as Lebron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, and more, did not play.
I asked my anonymous source if USA Basketball would come back from this defeat and respond better. The source said, “Yes, they will probably be getting better talent for the next Olympics.” USA Basketball will have to prove if they will keep dominating USA Basketball for the next upcoming years.
