Upper school embarks on bonding trips

by Darcy Dean

Last week, the entire high school went on bonding trips. The seniors went to Universal in Orlando, Florida. The Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors all went to Charleston, South Carolina. Both trips lasted for three days and were very entertaining and informative.

The trip to Charleston was highly successful. The first day consisted of the bus ride down, a visit to Charles Towne Landing, a trip to the Charleston Aquarium, dinner at Harbor Breeze (a restaurant in Charleston), and finally a ghost walk around Downtown Charleston before we headed to the hotel.

The next day we went on an Eco Tour to a barrier island, then to Fort Sumpter, then we went bowling at Stars and Strikes. On the third day we went to downtown Charleston, and we went on a carriage ride. Then we had a few hours to go shopping before getting on the bus to come home.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was going on the Eco Tour. First, we went on a boat, and we got to learn all about the wildlife that inhabits Charleston and the islands and water that surrounds it. Then, we got to go to Caper’s Island and explored on the beach for a while. After exploring, we ate lunch on the beach, got back on the boat, and went back to the mainland.

The seniors’ trip to Universal in Orlando was also great. I was able to interview Eliza Bryant, a senior who went on the trip, and she gave me an overview of the trip.

The seniors had to be at school at 5:30am to get ready for their flight. In Eliza’s own words, she said, “It was a turbulent flight.” Once they had checked in, they were free to roam the parks and waterparks and do whatever they wanted. One thing that they got to experience on the second day was “Grad bash,” which was a bunch of seniors from different schools, and they locked them in the park until 2:00 AM.

The day after that, they had one more day in the park, but they were also going to leave that day. Unfortunately, it was raining that day, but it was alright because they still had an exciting time.

Another unfortunate event that took place that day was their flight got cancelled so the entire senior class was forced to take the train home, but it was a great experience anyway.

I n conclusion, both bonding trips were amazing experiences for both the students and the chaperones. Neither trip will be experiences that we are soon to forget about in the future as we continue with our lives. I am sure that the bonding trips for next year will be just as great as they were this year.
