UAW work strike causing complications

By William Lanier

On September 15th, 2023, the UAW (United Auto Workers) started a strike when the deadline to make a new deal did not happen. This led to 13,000 members walking off the job. The UAW is an international union of autoworkers with over 400,000 active members. The UAW is striking against the company known as the Detroit Three. This includes General Motors, Ford and Stellantis, stellantis owns the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, and dodge companies. The strike, which theyare calling the Stand-Up Strike, started on Thursday when contract talks failed toget new labor agreements before the deals they had expired. A poll was sent to the people of greenfield school about the situation. 66 percent of people have seen this on the news recently and 50 percent of people said that they agree with the strike with the other 50% saying no. When asked if it was right for those workers to walk out 66 percent said yes. I interviewed Landyn Coolbaugh about the situation, and he said,“it is a big issue, and they are right to be striking if it stays calm.”
