On Sunday, November 13, 2022, Christopher Darnell Jones shot 4 football players for University of Virginia. Three of these players died and one is in the hospital with serious injuries. Christopher was also a student at UVA and had played on the football team in 2018 but did not play in other years.
They were going on a field trip to see a play, and on their way back to UVA, Jones started shooting. The football players who were shot at did not know Jones, even though he used to play. Jones' motive for shooting these football players is still unknown, but some people think it has to do with how he wasn’t able to continue playing football.
When I asked Mr. Manna what he thought about what happened, he said “Schools are places of youth and opportunity and the promise of bright futures. So I was devastated that so much potential was extinguished so unfairly and so soon for those three young men at UVA.”
According to Manna, Greenfield is doing its best to prevent things like this from happening and he said, “We have a vigilant community of faculty and staff, students, and parents who communicate concerns about any suspicious conduct or persons on campus. We also use a tool called Punch Alert to assist us in that communication, so that if there are questionable people on campus or signs of alarming behaviors, faculty and staff can use a mobile app to alert others on campus so that we take the appropriate measures to be safe until possible threats can be checked out and, if needed, resolved.”
