Tito's Hot Takes

Patrick Mahomes Disappoints in his 4th Straight AFC Championship Game!

On Sunday (Jan. 30), the Bengals took on the Chiefs and won in a thriller. The Bengals won by a field goal in overtime after Patrick Mahomes threw a pick on a deep ball intended for Tyreek Hill. The play prior, Patrick Mahomes nearly threw a pick 6. After the pick, the Bengals drove into field goal range, and rookie kicker Evan McPherson sent the Bengals to the Super Bowl. While Joe Burrow made some “Wow!” plays, I think the Bengal's defense is what won them the game. In my opinion, Eli Apple made the game-changing play when he stopped Tyreek Hill 2 yards short of a touchdown to finish the half. The momentum really seemed to shift after this as Patrick Mahomes posted a 1.4 QBR in the second half and overtime, which, according to Seth Walder, was the “sixth-worst second-half + OT QBR performance by any QB in any game this season.”

Matthew Stafford Finally Gets to a Super Bowl.

Before this year, Matt Stafford had NEVER won a playoff game. Now, he is competing in the Super Bowl. The Lions have held Stafford back for years. When he was finally freed from what has been a bottom 5 franchise in NFL history, he proved who he is. Coming in top-3 in both touchdowns and yards, Matthew Stafford showed that he is great. And now, after years of suffering, he has the chance to win a Super Bowl. I personally will be rooting for him. The underdog story is there, and I am excited for him to finally win. I hope the Rams take home the Lombardi, and Stafford is finally recognized. Only time will tell.

Clippers Post 35 Point Comeback against the Washington Wizards

The Clippers played the Wizards a week ago (Jan. 25). At one point, the Clippers were down 35 points. The Clippers slowly clawed their way back into the game. Slowly but surely, the Clippers made it a game. They were also without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. In the past games, they have needed others to step up. And others have stepped up. In the final seconds, Luke Kennard shot a three-pointer and was also fouled. The score was tied and 115. The Wizards watched in disbelief as Kennard sunk the free throw to win the game for the Clippers. This game did not come without controversy, however. The NBA has come out and said that the 4-point play should not have counted, however, because the foul had occurred before Kennard began his shooting motion. In my opinion, I am just thrilled to see a 35-point comeback. I think even if the play had been blown dead, the Clippers STILL would have found a way to win the game. This game seemed predestined for the Clippers to win.

Barry Bonds Snubbed from Baseball Hall of Fame

Barry Bonds was up for his final year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame but was not inducted. Instead, only David Ortiz was. Barry Bonds was a legend. He is the all-time leader for home runs. If you take away all of his home runs, he would still have a higher on-base percentage than Ortiz. The knock-on Bonds are his PED scandals. In 2003-2004, Bonds was accused of taking steroids. In my opinion, although Bonds did take steroids, you cannot omit the all-time home run leader from the Hall of Fame. I understand why he is not in it, but I disagree.
