BeReal is a famous social media app that sends you a notification every day at a completely random time. Once the notification goes off, you must take a picture of what you are doing at the moment it goes off. The point of the app is to post a BeReal on time. You can post a late BeReal, which means you did not "BeReal": you were being fake. It was created in 2020 by Alexis Barreyant and Kevin Perreau. As of August 2022, it had over 21.6 million active users.

One of the main focuses of the app is to show people the real world with no filters. Since there are no filters, the app wants you to show your true beauty. You can react to your friend’s BeReal with different emojis such as heart eyes, wide eyes, laughing emoji, and the lightning emoji.

One of the reasons Bereal is so popular is because you can see people without filters, and you can give yourself confidence. Cooper Howell said, “it's a good app because you can see what your friends are doing." Before you see all your friends' BeReals, you must post your own to unlock their's. You can retake your BeReal as many times as you would like but people can see how many times you retook it.
