The holidays at Greenfield

by Rickayla Myles

During Christmas time at Greenfield School each year, the whole school does a sing-along at the yearly Christmas concert, preschoolers get to do a meet-and-greet with Santa, there is a tradition of having a Christmas movie night, and the head of the school serves Christmas dinner to the staff. Greenfield School has wonderful traditions that we get to uphold each year. They are joyous occasions that we all enjoy at Greenfield. Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, and it's important that we continue to honor all traditions each year.

At our yearly sing-along at school, preschool through grade 12 get to perform many Christmas songs such as “Frosty the Snowman,” “Merry Christmas,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and my favorite, “Silent Night”. This year, the preschooler's performance was held on a different night than that of the kindergarten, lower school, and upper school. Greenfield students enjoy learning new songs and performing for our families each year. I have done this yearly tradition for over 12 years. I enjoy it each year and so do my family and friends.

Preschoolers and those in lower school have a meet-and-greet with Santa Claus. When Santa comes in, all the children get excited get ready to sit on Santa Claus’s lap and tell them what they want for Christmas. After they have finished telling Santa Clause what they want for Christmas, they have a Christmas party with many holiday treats. Sometimes during their Christmas party, they color festive coloring sheets, play games, and even do little projects. The children usually bring Christmas gifts for their teachers to show their appreciation for them during first semester.

Not only do we have Christmas concerts and plays but another Christmas tradition Greenfield School has is a movie night. Students gather around and watch the movie, Elf. During this time, popcorn, drinks, and candy are served to everyone. This is an excellent way to gather around and spend time with your family and friends.

This year, Mrs. Peters, the head of Greenfield School, passed out food to all of the school’s faculty members. The food was from a restaurant called Paul’s. This year, Greenfield School collaborated with The Wesley Shelter, and they donated clothes and toys to children, women, and men in need. This shows what Christmas is truly about. It is not about receiving things we want; it is about giving to other people. Doing good things and helping other people out are what release dopamine throughout the whole body and make us happy.

All the Christmas traditions at Greenfield School are important and special to the members of the Greenfield family. Greenfield takes Christmas seriously because we love being around family and friends during the holidays. Our school has been upholding these traditions since the school was established in 1969. Our Christmas traditions really show us the true meaning of Christmas and the true reason for the season.
