Greenfield School has a long-standing history that is 51 years of old age. It began when a community of parents came together in Wilson, gaining inspiration from other schools at the time to make arrangements for it. Their plans were to modernize a previous equestrian school named McDustrell. Many other schools similar to Greenfield had also formed around the same time, located in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, as well.
These plans for the school were realized when they were officially incorporated in the March of 1969, and started construction during the same year, in June. It was opened later for students the following fall season, and had accommodated K-8 grade groups, which was later adapted to K-12 grade groups, three years later. Jeffrey Thompson, Greenfield’s 3rd headmaster, created a preschool program in July 1983.
Much development and construction began at the school in the first few years, as it rapidly grew in size. They built a library in 1973 and a gymnasium in 1974. Further developments came until four decades later, with a new cafeteria built in 2012, a walking track in 2017, a tennis court in 2019, and a baseball field built in early 2021.
Greenfield has had a long exciting history of its founding. I dare you to ask your teachers that have been there in its glory for incitement on how the school has evolved from time to time.
