Over this past Halloween weekend, American Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the world, had numerous cancellations. This had families, businesses, and American Airlines themselves in a frenzy, but what was the cause of this?
The underlying reason for the cancellations was severe weather, but besides that, they had a major staffing issue that resulted in nearly two thousand flights being canceled and numerous more being delayed. This isn’t the first time there have been mass cancellations; just last month Southwest Airlines had a similar staffing problem.
Between Covid-19 quarantines and so much more, American Airlines has decided to hire around four thousand new employees, which includes bringing two thousand back. In a statement, the CEO of American Airlines said this: “What I fully suspect is that as we will get to the 24th and have not very many people still left unvaccinated." This keeps many people, including myself, hopeful for the future and that we’ll get back to what we consider normal. However, it’s undeniable that the world is forever changed by the tragedy that is Covid-19.
