This week, I interviewed Coach Robin Morrison about our Tennis team, and she had quite the response. She informed me of the daunting task of rebuilding the team after the top four players who graduated; however, she found Carter Peele and Hanson Ngo, two players who had already had the play time and experience.
After finding those two, she was tasked with finding the remaining four slots by doing Challenge matches. She was extremely accommodating to my lack of Tennis knowledge, stating that the purpose of these to me sayingt that “Challenge matches were played and ability-based decisions were made to round out the remaining seeds and the doubles teams."
One touching memory she shared with me was this: “when we played John Paul II in Greenville, we arrived with 11 players and they had three. I was mad to say the least but the boys who didn't play grabbed their racquets and some tennis balls and went out on the adjacent baseball field and had themselves a blast! It's easy to coach good kids!"
When speaking to Coach Morrison I got a real feel of how much she cared about these students, and I’ll certainly be tuning into the next tennis game and if you ever thought you’d be a good fit for the team. Here is her advice for future tennis players: “Get on a court, now! Do not wait to learn and or to practice. Lake Wilson has tennis opportunities, as well as Greenfield and WCC. “
