Last month, Greenfield students from grades 8-12 had midterms. For the upper school, there was a very much needed change in the exam schedule, and administration answered the call.
In previous years, upper school had two exams per day for 2 periods per day. For example, first and seventh period’s classes would be taken on the same day, second and fifth on the next day, etc. They had an exam for every class they took.
This year we only had exams for core classes, and had only one exam per day. Every student was taking the exam on the same subject each day. T
here were also review sessions every day for the exam the following next day. Doing this gave students the ability to go home and rest and then come back to study for the following day if they chose too. Having everyone taking the same subject exams on the same day allowed teachers to get all the grading done at once, and it allowed the teachers to be able to proctor for other exams.
I took a poll to see the opinions on the new exam format. I asked four people if they liked the new exam format more than the old format and 100% of people said that they liked the new format better. One individual I asked said “Yes, I liked that we only had one exam per day, and we had time to study in the afternoons.”
Overall, the student body approves of this new schedule, and finds it very beneficial for managing stress.
