The Spanish Club is an upper school club that meets on the second Thursday of every month and the location of the meeting is always in Señor Giron’s classroom. The club is made up of one adult supervisor and the rest are students who are in high school. When asked about the goal of Spanish club, Señor Giron stated that “The main goal is to offer an opportunity for the students to practice Spanish outside of just the class. The idea is to know more about the culture and do different activities that include some of the cultural traditions.”
Señor Giron has played a crucial role in the Hispanic cultural events that have gone on at Greenfield and that makes the students get involved and learn more about the culture itself. Spanish Club was founded in 2015 when Señor Giron joined Greenfield. At the first couple of the club meetings, the main thing that the club was trying to be accomplished was elect club officers. As it stands, Jeallen Holland is the president, Aidan Blackmon is the vice-president, Anna Grace Beddingfield is the secretary, Hanson Ngo is the treasurer, and the representatives are McKenna Warren and Joe Green.
When Señor Giron was asked about the next cultural event that is taking place at Greenfield he stated, “The next event is Cinco de Mayo and that should be a very big celebration that will get the students involved. There will be Hispanic food truck there as well. Students will be dancing and there will be cultural music played on speakers and last but not least Mr. Sergeant and some of his students will play music!”
The events always produce an enjoyable time for the members of the Greenfield community, and this is what Señor Giron hopes for: “Basically [the club] gives the kids a chance to share different activities that resemble the Spanish culture. It allows students to get a deeper understanding of the Spanish culture itself.”
