On September 16 a 22-year old woman named Masha Amini died in the custody of Iranian Morality Police. This resulted in widespread protests in Iran. The Iranian Morality Police is a group of the Iranian law enforcement that arrests women for wearing inappropriate hijabs, they also restrict other freedoms of expression.

The current protests are the longest that Iran has ever seen lasting more than six months. The protests that come closest to these are the green movement in 2009. The green movement was a movement to get President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad out of office after an election that was thought to be rigged.

The current protests are due an economic crisis that involves and increasing lower class and a middle class that is leaving for better opportunity, and also a feminist movement. Mrs King says that she hopes that this will enlighten more people on women's suffering in the Middle East.
