Thousands of people in Peru have been protesting for weeks for the current President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, to resign. People have been angry in Peru because this is their sixth President since 2018, and their president is not allowed to serve consecutive terms.

More than 55 people have died and many more people have been injured in these protests. People are protesting because they want the former president, Pedro Castillo, to be released from jail, and they want Boluarte to resign. Castillo was arrested for crimes of rebellion and conspiracy, but he has denied these accusations. The government in Peru has sent troops into the streets in response to the protests. Boluarte has said, “I am not going to resign, my commitment is with Peru, not with that tiny group that is making the country bleed.”

She is also under investigation for the crimes of genocide, qualified homicide, and serious injuries for what has happened with the protests.
