Opinion: The Seven Teams That Could Win It All in the NFL

by Tyler Thompson

Six weeks through the 2021 NFL season, there are seven teams who are serious Super Bowl contenders. These teams can be broken up into two groups: the favorites since day one and preseason dark horse contenders. The favorites since day one include the Bills, Buccaneers, Packers, and Rams.

The Bills saw Josh Allen take a massive leap forward in 2020, and, with a great supporting cast, the Bills look to build off what they did last season. Josh Allen and the Bills are currently 4-2.

Even after a loss to the Titans, it seems as if not many teams can stop them. Prior to this loss, they were looking unstoppable. The Bills really beat themselves in this game; If Josh Allen did not lose his footing, they would be 5-1. Regardless, they are still one of the best teams in the NFL. They are currently looking like the favorites to win the Super Bowl with an unstoppable offense and a lockdown defense. If they can continue their dominance, it is hard to see anyone stopping them.

The Buccaneers are also a team that everyone has looked at as Super Bowl contenders. They won the Super Bowl last year and kept all twenty-two starters on their roster from their Super Bowl campaign. Like the Bills, they are 5-1. Tom Brady does not age and is in the MVP race. What’s not to love about this team? With Tom Brady under center, can the Buccaneers lose? With the GOAT, it’s hard to bet against the Buccaneers.

After some offseason drama that could have left Aaron Rodgers retired and Davante Adams on another team was solved, no one doubted the Packers would once again be a great team in the NFL. Last season’s MVP Aaron Rodgers continues to prove he is a great quarterback and his team’s record proves it. After a fluke of a game in week one, the Packers have not lost a single game. The Packers have proven that they can still hang with the big dogs and they are still a team to be taken seriously as Super Bowl Contenders.

A team that had a few question marks around them, but no one doubted, are the Rams. They had a new quarterback coming in and lost their defensive coordinator to the Chargers. Even with this, everyone knew Sean McVay could lead this team to a Super Bowl. Now, 6 games in and a record of 5-1 the trade that acquired Matthew Stafford has proved to be a slam dunk. With an explosive offense and a defense that has both Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald, there are not many teams that can beat the Rams. If the Rams continue to play this way, they have a serious chance at the Super Bowl.

There are also several teams that many people were not even certain would make the playoffs prior to the season. Teams that looked like long shots at making the Super Bowl now look like they have a serious chance. These teams include the Ravens, Cowboys, and Cardinals.

Who doubted the Ravens? Well, many people, actually. Many analysts prior to this season said that the NFL has figured Lamar Jackson out. Well, they were wrong. Lamar Jackson has looked nothing short of electric this year. He is the best dual-threat quarterback the NFL has ever had. Their defense has looked sloppy at times, but Lamar Jackson and the offense make up for it. It will not be a surprise if they play at Sofi Stadium in the Super Bowl this February.

Another team that had some question marks coming into this season was the Cowboys. After a poor season last year, the Cowboys have made a statement this year with a dominant record of 5-1. Dak Prescott has looked great after his gruesome injury last year, and Dallas’ defense actually looks formidable this year. The latter is something no one expected. This defense contains some great players like Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons. This team has a serious opportunity to make the Super Bowl this year.

The Cardinals are a team that missed the playoffs last year but have taken a huge leap this season. The Cardinals are 6-0, have an MVP frontrunner to lead an explosive offense, and a great defense. Enough said: this team is looking like a Super Bowl lock.

Even only six weeks through the young season, the Super Bowl contenders are already taking shape. These teams all seem to be unstoppable. The question is: who will come out on top?
