Op-ed: Racism in sports

For a long time, sports have been a major part of entertainment and physical activities. Sports like Soccer, Football, Rugby, Cricket, and Basketball are among the most popular ones.

Over the years that sports have existed, trash talk has been common, especially in rivalries, like how Duke and UNC has. Of course, there are players in these sports who do not like each other and have publicly stated so, but what about from the fan perspective?

Since the beginning of time, racism has been another major part of society with people deeming others with a different skin color than them less important or worth less than them, so logically and unfortunately, it makes sense that racism would be involved in sports, too.

I don’t want to target a specific city that’s in mind but if you keep up with sports news on places like Twitter you know which city has the most racism in sports in America. Besides, all of this blatant bigotry in American society today is widely unaccepted. Our plan as the people of America, the land of the free, should be to accept everyone for who they are and not for how they look.
