If you asked the average teenager in our age who Jimmy Buffett was, they’d probably say they have no idea, which there is nothing wrong with, but if you ask the average middle-aged person who he was, they could talk for a long time.

One of the most famous country/tropical singers, Jimmy Buffett, passed away at the age of 76 on September 1st, 2023. He was mainly known for his songs "Margaritaville," "Fins," and his feature on Alan Jackson’s song, "It’s Five O-Clock Somewhere."

I asked Davis Boyd, a student at Greenfield, what he thought about the future of country music now that Buffett has passed, he said, ”I think Jimmy Buffett’s death has started a decline in happy country music.” Country music over the past decade has gotten more depressing and sad, which kind of led up to a decline in popularity of modern country music as a whole.

To justify my statement in the beginning, I did a survey of around 15 people and asked them if they were upset that Jimmy Buffett died, if they weren’t, and if they even knew who he was. Surprisingly, a majority said yes to the question with second place being a tie between no and who.

Overall I think maybe the ones who said yes didn’t find Buffett on their own, but through their parents.

Nevertheless, Jimmy Buffett was an influential artist who promoted an unhealthy, but happy lifestyle.
