Obit: Bob Knight dies at 83

By Zach Rankin

Bobby Knight has died at the age of 83. His family announced he died on November 1, 2023, in his home in Bloomington, Indiana. Bobby Knight was a legendary coach who coached at Indiana, Army, and Texas Tech. He also coached the USA Men’s Basketball Team.

Mostly known for his coaching at Indiana, he won three national championships with Indiana. He is also one of three coaches to win an NCAA title, an NIT title, and a gold medal.

He has mentored and coached legendary basketball people like Coach K and Isiah Thomas. Without Bobby Knight, there probably would not be the Detroit “Bad Boy” Pistons or Coach K’s Blue Devils. Bobby Knight left a great impact on the way basketball is played today and has inspired many coaches.

In my poll, I asked college basketball fans if he was the greatest coach ever, and 100% said no, but the reason for that is because of John Wooden and Coach K. 50% said that he is a top 5 coach all time and the other 50% said he is a top 10 coach of all time. Another question was which team he coached was the best, and 75% percent said it was the 1981 team that won the championship with Isiah Thomas.
