The NHL hosted its annual Winter Classic on January 2nd, 2023. The idea of the Winter Classic is to bring the sport of hockey back to its roots, which is playing outdoors, playing against each other, playing on frozen ponds and lakes, and the winter chill and weather.

The most recent game was a battle between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. Each team had the opportunity to wear specialized jerseys for the game. The Bruins beat the Penguins 2-1.

Post-game interviews occurred within each team, discussing how the game would eventually end up. The Pittsburgh Penguins coach, Mike Sullivan, stated, “It comes down to subtle details, some timely plays. And that was the way the game went.”

The only goal scorer for Pittsburgh was Kasperi Kapanen, who got his team on the board at the start of the second period. This would lead to the only goal for Pittsburgh, as Boston’s Jake Debrusk found the back of the net twice to give his team the tying goal and leading goal.
