New Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Billy Parker

by Jack Adair

Mr. Billy Parker was born in West Virginia but was raised in Kentucky and lived there most of his life.

In the past 12 years, Mr. Parker has been traveling the world, living in places such as Guam, where he lived before. Wanting to be closer to their families, Mr. Parker and his wife settled down in Wilson, and both began teaching here at Greenfield. He is currently teaching AP Government, Economics and Government, AP United States History, College Prep, and United States History.

Mr. Parker attended the University of Kentucky to major in pre-pharmacy, to follow in his father's footsteps, who is also a pharmacist. However, he switched his degree to something he enjoyed more, history. He got his bachelor's degree in history at Kentucky and then attended grad school at Marshall University to get his master's in education.

Since joining the Greenfield family, Parker stated that the students have been “pretty awesome,” and the faculty have been “very welcoming, open and warm” upon his arrival. He also enjoys the new campus and teaching environment he has been granted. It is very different from teaching in Guam, and he says he was previously teaching in a “storage closet located in the basement with no windows.” Mr. Parker’s definition of a successful student would be a student who “embraces everything put in front of them, and gives it their all, regardless how they think they will do.”

One thing Parker would tell a student who wants to be successful would be that “everything's going to be okay” and that you should “put your all into it and know the limits of your schedule.”
