This year Greenfield is offering many new courses, including a new history class, AP African American Studies. Mr. Manna is the teacher of class, and only a few schools get to have this course taught to their students. We are one of about 600-700 schools to be able to teach this class. The course is AP African American Studies is broken down into four units which starts with the Origins of Africa, then the Enslavement and Resistance, next is the Practice of Freedom and finally the Movements and Debates.

In my interview with Mr. Manna, he said the reason we have this class as an option to be taught is that, “It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to offer students a course that they have had zero exposure to in the past....to take a class in Black or African American Studies.”

Mr. Manna teaches this course himself because, “I wasn’t able to learn this course when I was in school and thought it’d be neat to learn it and teach it myself.” What he wants his students to learn from the African American Studies class is, “I want them to come away with an understanding of history and life experiences of people in times that they have limited understanding of."
