The Maybelle “Pete” Winborne Rickard Art Gallery has been built in the former AV Room on Greenfield School’s campus, and it opened on January 17, 2024. This has been in the makings since Seth Penwell, the Fine Arts Director at Greenfield, pitched the idea in mid-2022, and it has finally become a reality.
This gallery is a wonderful addition to the Fine Arts Program at Greenfield. “This was our step forward in visual arts,” says Mr. Penwell. The school wanted to make sure that everyone has equal opportunities to show off their talents, whether they are an athlete, actor, musician, or artist. Deb Rogers, Head of School, stated “We wanted to have a place for students to be able to demonstrate and be celebrated for their artistic accomplishments.”
Art I and the Photography Class at Greenfield contributed art to the gallery opening. Emily Howard, Middle and Upper School Art teacher, stated, “It was beautiful. I can't stop gushing about it.” Ms. Howard contributed a beautiful, well-thought-out mural to the gallery. “I really wanted to make sure that I was kind of encapsulating the whimsy of an art space.”
Students who have been to the gallery have liked the space and are looking forward to seeing more art mediums in the future.
