Michigan takes home title

by Zachary Rankin

The College Football Championship is over. The Michigan Wolverines beat the Washington Huskies in the Championship and are now Champions.

The teams had different paths to get there. Michigan beat Alabama in the semifinal 20-27 in overtime. Washington beat Texas in their semifinal game 31-37. The QB matchup was a great one to watch between Michael Penix Jr. and JJ McCarthy. Penix had been doing an excellent job this season throwing for 4,648 yards, 35 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions while finishing second in the Heisman race. JJ McCarthy is also coming off a great season, passing Tom Brady in passing yards at Michigan. Another key player that Washington has is Rome Odunze who is a projected first round pick in the 2024 draft. Another key player for Michigan is OL Drake Nugent.

The past nine championships six of them has had either Georgia or Alabama in it, so it was expected to be a great championship game having these two teams who haven’t been in it in a while. Michigan has claimed nine national championships. The Huskies have claimed two championships in their entire football existence.

In my poll, 70% said Washington would win. 60% said it would be a close game between the two and that Washington would win. Half of respondents predicted that Penix, Jr. would win MVP.
