The Federal Bureau of Investigation searched former president Donald J. Trump's house in Mar-a-Lago, Florida on August 8th because he was believed to have classified documents.
Trump did have over 100 classified documents in his possession including 18 that were marked as top secret, according to the New York Times.
It is unclear if anything will happen from this because he had the documents from when he was President. Trump has responded to these actions by saying “These are dark times for our nation”, and that it was an “attack by the radical left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024.”
When I interviewed Mr. Parker, GS' AP US Government and Politics instructor, on this topic, he said, “I think he will be charged but I doubt he will see any jail time or serious trouble.” When I asked him if he thought it would prevent Trump from running again, he said that it probably won't.
