Lower School Excited for New Year

by Gabby Beddingfield

This year has brought some changes to the lower school. There are some new students and faculty in multiple grades this year, but there are other changes this year as well, especially after COVID-19 affecting school so much last year.

Our lower school coordinator, Mrs. Robin Morrison, was asked about some changes this year. Mrs. Morrison said, “We have a service dog for the first time at Greenfield School, who is helping one of our students along who has Type 1 Diabetes.” She also went on to say, “We do have a new spelling curriculum this year.”

In the third grade, Mrs. Crystal Boykin is teaching with new teacher Mrs. Lily Williamson alongside her. When asked about differences in third grade this year compared to past years, Mrs. Boykin said, “I have more children than I’ve had in the last few years, so we’re full. So, we try to cap in lower school at twenty.” Greenfield has seen an increase in the number of students since COVID-19 hit last year, with the in-person teaching being an important factor.

Mrs. Abbie McKeel and teaches fourth grade at Greenfield. When asked what she likes about this year compared to other years, Mrs. McKeel said, “I like teaching all the subjects. Last year I only taught reading and math because we split the fourth grade up due to trying to spread them out.”

The lower school community at Greenfield School has some exciting new changes this year, and they are looking forward to a great year!
