Five people were killed when flight 516, a Japan Airline, collided with a earth quake release plane from the Japan coastguard. Flight 516 had no fatalities; however, the relief aircraft ended with five killed and several injured.
The crew on Flight 516 was able to get everyone out quickly and safely with only four injured. There were eight children under the age of 2, with everyone’s cooperation the
evacuation went smoothly.
When the flames broke out more than 100 firetrucks were dispatched to the accident. According to one of the passengers everyone on the plane was calm, passengers only really saw smoke coming from the engines, and it wasn’t until they got off when they found out about the severity of the situation.
It is still under investigation as to whose fault the deadly crash was. The French is sending in its own investigators to Tokyo to join the investigation team opened by Japan Transport Safety Board. The French have specialist to help understand why this collision happened.
I took a poll of 14 people to hear their opinions on planes, I asked which emergency situation people would find most difficult to escape and I asked if people think planes are well prepared for emergencies. 50% of people said that escaping a shooter on a plane would be the most difficult to escape. 57% of people think planes are well prepared for emergencies and 42.9% of people think they are not.
