Lower school students at Greenfield School have recovered well from the wave of sickness that spread throughout school this 2023-2024 winter.
Mrs. Boykin, the Third Grade Teacher at Greenfield, and Mrs. Manna, the Fourth Grade Teacher, outlined some things that helped her class stay healthy and recover quickly academically. They both work hard to teach their students skills like organization and planning. Mrs. Manna said, “I think it is important for students to have some sort of organizational system that works for them.” Mrs. Boykin works on organization and independence with her third-grade students. “We show the students that everything has a place.” This helps them to be more self-proficient and makes their absence more manageable.
Both teachers also take healthcare precautions to avoid sickness. During this widespread wave of sickness, they have made sure to monitor their students’ use of hand sanitizer, wipe down each kid’s desk every day, and clean their classrooms thoroughly. Although lower school students stay in close quarters together for most of the day, these precautions seem to have worked, since both third and fourth grade have stayed moderately healthy, and this epidemic has not been a large setback for either grade.
