On Saturday, February 25, 2023, Greenfield’s basketball team lost by thirteen points to The Burlington School in the state championship.

Greenfield’s loss was a disappointment to a varsity basketball program with a reputation as an incredibly good team for the past few years. Greenfield has had exceptionally great basketball players, such as Coby White, Anthony Atkinson, Logan Mclane, Jeremy Jeffers, Elijah McCadden, and many others. These players all led their teams to remarkable success during their seasons.

Last year, Greenfield’s varsity basketball team had an outstanding season with a record of 29-11, and they made it to the state championship game. Unfortunately, they fell short of their goal.

This year, “We are looking forward to having an even better season than we had last year, and we are going to win the state championship,” senior basketball star Matt Kirby stated. Matt’s teammate Johnny Winborne, who is a Greenfield freshman, noted, “This is my first year here at Greenfield, and I am excited to play with my new teammates and just being able to compete with other teams and win the state championship.’’

Matt and Johnny’s statements show how much chemistry this team will have. The head coach, Rob Salter, added, “This upcoming year will be a great season, and I cannot wait to get back out there with this team and win the state championship.”
