Greenfield Theater puts on "Peter Pan and Wendy "

by Tyler Thompson

Last Thursday and Friday (Mar. 24 & 25), Mr. Penwell and Greenfield School put on the play Peter Pan and Wendy by Doug Rand at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center in Wilson, NC. This play centers around Wendy and her brothers leaving home with Peter Pan to the mystical place of Neverland where children never grow up. In Neverland, they join Peter Pan and the Lost Boys in order to fight the ferocious Captain Hook and his crew. The play adapted from the classic childhood story proved to be exciting and nostalgic.

The showings had very good turnouts. People filled into their seats to see a great show and support their friends and students of Greenfield. The audience was immersed in the story throughout the entire show. Everyone could feel the tension in the final battle between Captain Hook and Peter Pan. The two clashed for a while before Peter Pan came out victorious. The well-choreographed fight was one of my favorite parts of the play. There were many good moments and scenes throughout the play that left the audience in a loud applause at the end of the show.

Students worked on this play for sometimes hours a day, especially in the week leading up to the production. Their hard work paid off, and the show was excellent.

The cast was as follows. Senior Monica Mann played Peter Pan, Della Ruth Koster (6th) played Wendy Darling, Joseph Batchelor (7th) and Ajay Genge (7th) played Wendy’s two brothers, John and Michael, and Senior Jeremy Johnson played Captain Hook. There were also many other students who did outstanding jobs as well, including the young cast of the Lost Boys. Even when things went a little off script, the audience hardly noticed. There were few mistakes, and even if there were, the actors did a great job to make sure the audience did not even recognize the mistakes.

Monica Mann starred alongside many young actors. “I really want to make an impact on younger students. I want to be a good example for others,” Monica said. This play gave her the perfect opportunity to do that. She was able to share her knowledge of acting and theater to the younger actors. Knowing the person Monica is, we know that the younger actors have recognized her as a role model. Seeing how great this play was and the amount of excited young actors, theater at Greenfield under Mr. Penwell has a bright future.
