Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican independence from the French. Stories of the brave soldiers who fought against the French were brought to America, specifically California and Arizona, by immigrants from Mexico when they moved into America. In the words of Señor Giron, “Cinco De Mayo is a celebration of the bravery of the Mexican soldiers.”
This year, at Greenfield School, we will be having a Cinco De Mayo Celebration in order to commemorate these fearless soldiers as well.
Along with a food truck, there will be lots of music, games, and dancing. The Spanish Club will be doing a special presentation during the celebration as well. The food truck will have all kinds of Mexican food including burritos, tacos, and many more choices for students and teachers alike to choose from. There will also be a surprise presented by Mr. Seargent and the Drum/Percussion students.
When asked in an interview how difficult that this event was to plan, Señor Giron replied, “We planned ahead so that was the best part. The most difficult part was getting everyone together to do the practices.”
A lot of effort went into making this celebration enjoyable and interesting for everyone. I encourage you all to come out and experience the celebration of Cinco De Mayo.
