At 2:51pm on Thursday 29 September , Greenfield School announced closure due to Tropical Storm Ian.
The Carolina’s are expected to be majorly affected by Tropical Storm Ian. Strong winds are expected in South Carolina early Friday and gusts will be more than 50mph. Pender, Pitt, Duplin, and Wilson County School systems have canceled school tomorrow because of the effects of Ian. All parts of North Carolina and South Carolina are expecting 4-10 inches of rain. There are also high chances of power outages, especially in South Carolina.
In South Carolina expectations rise toward the hurricane impacts. Many are expecting high winds, heavy rain, flooding, storm surges, and isolated tornadoes starting Thursday night. Citizens are preparing to face property damage, power outages and flooding. The tropical storm looks to power back up and become a hurricane again as it draws warm water from the Atlantic. According to the National Hurricane Center, "Ian is to become a hurricane this evening and make landfall on Friday.” Governor Henry McMaster warns people to make plans if they haven’t already done so.
Hurricane Ian arrived in Florida on 9/28 with 155-mph winds, tearing apart homes and buildings and leaving some residents stranded as storm surge flooded communities. Tornadoes are also a possibility across the coastal plain. It will arrive in North Carolina at 2 am 9/30, so we should expect between 4 and 6 inches of rain from the storm.
