At the beginning of November, Greenfield celebrated Dia de los Muertos. Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday in which families honor the souls of their relatives that have passed. It is celebrated on November 1- November 2.
During Dia de los Muertos, families will build ofrendas for their relatives. Art 1 with Mrs. Emily Howard they made ofrendas. An ofrenda is an altar that is put up to remember deceased relatives. In Sr. Giron’s classes, they watched Coco and did a worksheet about the food and celebrations. According to Giron,”I showed my students a powerpoint presentation about the traditions, food, and customs on Day of the Dead in Mexico.”
Traditions of day of the dead include dancing, playing music, painting skulls on peoples faces, and leaving the deceased person's favorite food and drink on their graves. Skeletons and skulls are commonly used in day of the dead celebrations.
