The earthquakes in Turkey and Syria began February 6th, 2023. The first earthquake occurred on Monday the 6th which killed thousands of people. The first earthquake measured out at a 7.8 on the Richter scale which occurred at 4:17am. A seven on the Richter scale is considered extremely high and dangerous.
Less than 12 hours later a second earthquake occurred with a tremor of a 7.6 on the Richter scale. Since the earthquakes have occurred, more than a hundred aftershock earthquakes with a Richter scale of 4.0 and above have occurred.
On Monday February 20, 2023, the death toll of the earthquakes surpassed 35,000. William Lanier stated, “I've seen many videos of people pulling out children from piles of rubble, I even saw a one-year-old baby be saved after being stuck in rubble for 3 whole days.”.
Only a handful of people have been pulled out of the rubble left by the earthquakes recently with thousands still missing. Hundreds and thousands of houses, stores, and churches have been destroyed and brought to the ground from the earthquakes.
