On Friday, October 29, 2021, Greenfield School’s Girls and Boys Cross Country teams ran in the NCISAA Division 1A state championship meet. On Saturday, October 30, 2021, the Girls Varsity Tennis team competed in the NCISAA Division 1A state championship game. The Girls Cross Country team finished 6th overall, the Boys Cross Country team finished 8th overall, and the Girls Tennis team finished as runner up in the state tournament.
Prior to the meet, Xavier Baptiste, a cross country runner that went to the state meet, was asked what his favorite part of the season was. He said, “Everybody did their personal best.” When Mrs. Stronach, one of the cross country coaches, was asked the same question, she said, “I think seeing the progress that everybody made, and getting to see them progress and know that they’ve gotten faster.” Mr. Thompson, the other cross country coach, was asked the same question, and he said, “Probably seeing everyone make progress and make improvement, and also watching the runners get faster and faster.”
Before the Varsity Girls Tennis team competed in the state championship game, Libby Eagles, the number one seed on the team, was asked about her favorite part of their season. She said, “After the match Tuesday, we all group hugged. We were so excited. I thought coach was going to cry.”
When Mrs. Morrison, the Varsity Girls Tennis coach was asked how excited she was on a scale of one to ten for the state championship meet, she said, “I’m at an eleven. I’m off that chart. It’s so much fun, and I’m so proud of them. Regardless of the outcome, like I said, they made it, they deserve it, and I couldn’t be any prouder of them. So, yeah, off the chart.”
All three of these teams worked hard all season to earn their place in that state championship competition. Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Cross Country teams and the Varsity Girls Tennis team on their amazing seasons!
