This year, the Greenfield School Environmental Club has become very active around campus. From the new raised beds in front of the high school building to a possible upcoming compost area, the club is planning on doing it all. In this article we will get an inside look on some aspects of the club from the view of President, Juliette Suarez-Robles, and one of the Faculty Advisors, Mr. Benoit.
There are two upcoming projects that the Environmental Club it taking on. The first is composting. In the words of Mr. Benoit, “We are planning on taking food scraps from the cafeteria, like fruit and vegetable scraps, and using those in the raised beds.” Juliette says, “The overall goal of this project is to make the compost system a normal thing for the cafeteria.” The second project is making signs for the raised beds because they were a gift from the previous senior class.
If you haven’t walked by the high school recently, then you might not have noticed the addition of new raised beds that currently contain baby bok choy, spinach, collard greens, all kinds of lettuce, various herbs, and others.
The club has four official roles, which are President, held by Juliette Suarez-Robles, Vice President, held by Nathan Lozevski, treasurer, held by Carter McLamb, and Seargent at Arms, held by Porter Wells. There are currently around 70 students in the club and the meetings are held outside on the old tennis courts. We can’t wait to see all of the things that will take place in the environmental club this year.
