Class of 2024 Spotlight: Yazi Bulluck

by Quintin Blake

Yazi Bulluck is an accomplished student at Greenfield School with many accolades coming from sports and education. She is a senior at Greenfield and plays multiple sports, such as basketball, volleyball, and soccer.

When asked about some of the activities she enjoys, she said, “I love to do sports. I am a three-season athlete. My favorite is soccer.” Yazi said that soccer is her favorite because it allows her to have fun. She has played since she was six years old and loves the passion of the sport that brings people together.

Yazi is also involved in many clubs and extracurricular activities, and she said, “I like to participate in the DEI club; I am a co-president. I also help with the National Honors Society, the environmental club, and now the Spanish club.” Along with being the co-president of the DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) club, she was also a founding member during her sophomore year in 2021.

In her clubs, extracurricular activities, and accomplishments, she achieved academic excellence in the tenth and eleventh grades, making straight A’s for the entire year.

During her senior year, she is the president of the National Honors Society. She is a vital member of all sports teams and the teams she was on in previous years. Yazi said her favorite moment at Greenfield was “Scoring a goal in the second half of the state championship soccer game in 2022.” This was Yazi’s favorite moment because she and the Greenfield soccer team were down 1-0 to start the second half. Then, three minutes into the second half of the state championship game, she scored. Yazi said, “I don’t remember the cheers from the crowd. What I do remember is the whole team jumping on me as we celebrated.”

When asked about her favorite part of Greenfield School, she said, “The people” because everyone is “really friendly.” She also reiterated that she would miss the people the most once she graduates and will miss playing on the sports teams.

Yazi’s plans for her future include going to “UNC to study psychology and neuroscience with a minor in biology.” Although her original plan was to major in biology, she enjoyed AP Psychology and the information in the class, which led her to continue pursuing psychology and contributing to helping people. When asked about her plans for the future, she said to attend UNC-Chapel Hill because of the sports, campus, and variety of majors and courses.
