Class of 2023 Spotlight: Jack Wilson

by Danny Pham

Jack Wilson is a senior this year at Greenfield School and he has been studying here since he was three years old. He loves playing piano, taking pictures, swimming, and a lot more. He has been playing piano for 13 years and it is an excellent way for him to relax after a stressful day. Jack’s favorite piece to play is "Skyfall" by Adele. His interest in photography began when he started traveling more and I take pictures of landscapes/nature, but he wants to start taking more pictures of people. Jack has always loved swimming because it is a time where he can blast music and it is a great form of exercise. Reading is recent because it has taken him a long time figuring out what he finds interesting, which would be science fiction.

Jack’s favorite subject is Math, especially Calculus, because there is always a definite answer, unlike English where there are many arguable points. Jack Wilson also plays sports at Greenfield. He has already participated in Cross Country for two years (11th and 12th grade) The only thing he loves about Greenfield is the size which allows him to form close connections and relationships with his teachers and have a general knowledge of every student here. As he has been a member of Greenfield school since Pre-K, Jack has learned that he is good at math and science, and he says that the teachers have helped him a lot in narrowing down his interest and figuring out what he wants to pursue in his life. Jack passionately advises high school students to "not work yourself up over insignificant things. I am still trying to figure it out myself, but I know that worrying over something small is a waste of time and energy and interferes with what is important.”

Jack wants to attend NC State University and major in electrical engineering with a minor in business. He wants to study electric engineering so he can pursue a career with electric vehicles. He hopes to use the degree to study and manufacture new batteries and motors to make cars more affordable, with the intention of owning his own car company.

Finally, Jack shares his study experience which is: “My advice to anyone is too not let a toxic or negative person get in the way of doing what you love. When I first experienced a person hating what I was passionate about, I did not know how to take it and let it overpower my thoughts. but as I got older, I realized those negative people are simply jealous of you. What I want you to understand is to go through life focused on your passions and to never ever let anyone get in the way of you doing something great.”
