“I never cut corners" is a common phrase that RJ Shealy’s teammates hear from him. He consistently tries his best to motivate his teammates to be their best, and he always tries his hardest to lead his teams. “I like to lead by example. I come out every day and work hard,” said RJ.

Richard Jayson Shealy, or RJ, is a 17-year-old senior at Greenfield School. He has been at Greenfield since his Freshman year.

RJ has played a wide variety of sports at Greenfield. He has also earned the opportunity to be a captain on some of his sports teams. Currently, he is a captain of the soccer team. However, RJ must balance his work with athletics since he is a multi-sport student-athlete. To do this, RJ must has had to cultivate a strong work ethic.

In the middle of RJ’s sophomore year, the global COVID-19 pandemic came upon us.

“Last year we didn’t have a swim team [due to COVID] ... but other than that, we still have managed to do well,” said RJ. He has been able to power through COVID and other adversities to make it to his senior year.

Throughout his career at Greenfield, he has accomplished many of this athletic goals. “I have got to say that winning the State Championship was pretty great,”and he wants to win another State Championship this year.

RJ is ecstatic to finally be a senior. “[Being a senior] feels great... I'm going to miss everyone around here,” he said. RJ looks to continue to build off all the things he has experienced and learned going into college.
