Behind the Scenes: GS' cafeteria staff

by Emily Ross

There is a lot of work that goes into being apart of the cafeteria staff, such as preparing food for break and lunch every day while also making sure the cafeteria is running smoothly.

To get a closer look at the behind the scenes in the café, I interviewed Mrs. Bailey, the cafeteria manager.

Mrs. Bailey gets to Greenfield by 6am so that she can open the kitchen. The first thing she does is assess the kitchen area for any potential issues and then she checks and records temperatures on cooling units, freezers and the storage room. She also makes sure that all the essentials are there and ready for the day. Mrs. Bailey says as a cafeteria manager “you learn how to multitask and wear several hats at the same time” and there are various stakeholders who depend on her work and accountability.

I asked Mrs. Bailey what her favorite part about working in the cafeteria was and she said “I have worked in food service for many years and in various positions throughout those years and still my favorite part is the hospitality. This being my first year at Greenfield, I want to convey that hospitality to my kids by providing good, nourishing, comforting food.” Lastly, Mrs. Bailey says that is no hard part about working in the cafeteria, only challenges, and with every challenge there is eventually success.
