48 Hours: Berlin, Germany

by Clara Graf

Berlin, the capital of Germany, is not only a city but also a state. There are a lot of famous sightseeing spots and secret tips which can help your trip to Berlin to be the perfect vacation. I want to help you have the perfect two days of the Berlin experience.

First off, as a kid from Berlin, I can confirm that public transportation in Berlin has been developed to the point where you can easily can get everywhere you want from any point in the city. The so called “Trams”, street trains, and subway have a very complicated but well-thought out system.

The perfect district or area to spend the first day at is “Mitte”, which means middle, and is, as the name says, the middle of Berlin. It has the most beautiful restaurants, shops and spots to stay. Also it has the so-called “Museum Island”, which is a part partitioned by the river “Spree” which flows through the whole city. On this island you can find multiple wonderful museums, which display a wide variety of artifacts, from modern and mechanic ones to old and historical ones. The entry is either free or up to 10 Euros.

After visit to the Museum Island you can go over to the “Hackescher Markt” and enjoy the choice of many different food options from Asian to American; you can buy anything here. When you have your food, you can sit down and enjoy the view of the river and it´s island.

The second day you can start out with a traditional brunch. Berlin is known for it´s many beautiful cafes, which are often small but very good in their own way. My personal favorite is “Cafe Anna Blume”, which is placed in “Prenzaluer Berg." The bagels and the coffee there are excellent. To finish of your last day your destination should definitely be the “Fernsehturm." It is the highest building in Berlin at 364 meters. You can sit in the globe and have a good lunch or dinner before you can go shopping in the shopping malls of the “Alexanderplatz”.
